Our Milestones

In ECOMY’s relatively short establishment of 5 years, it has amassed a humble set of accolades:

2019

  • 10th Asian Bird Fair 2019 was successfully organised by ECOMY from 27th September to 1st October 2019. 120 participants attended representing 25 countries.
  • We were honoured with The Star Golden Hearts Award for our work with conservation work with local communities.
  • ECOMY successfully organised World Tapir Day at Kuala Tahan, Pahang 26 – 27th April 2019 with 2 local schools involving 120 students. Part of this event was conducted in Taman Negara.
  • Taman Negara Bird Count. Collaborated & supported the main organisers Bird Group Taman Negara 8-9th March 2019.

2018

  • Birdsmalaysia.my. This is a project to develop and maintain a national website to promote and provide resources to boost and compliment the birdwatching industry in Malaysia. Project runs March 2018 – December 2019.
  • Successfully organised World Tapir Day 27th April 2018 at Sungai Dusun, Selangor with over 500 students.

2017

  • In partnership with Vale Malaysia Minerals, Perak State Forestry Department, Pangkor Nature Guides and Majlis Perbandaran Manjung, ECOMY organised the science discovery 7-day Pangkor Scientific Expedition in July 2017.
  • Royal Belum Hornbill was successfully organised in July 2017 with 7 countries participating as part of ECOMY’s signature event.
  • Asian Bird Fair, Nov 2017, Ulsan, South Korea. ECOMY hosted Tourism Malaysia, Sarawak Convention Bureau personnel to participate.
  • In partnership with Yayasan Hasanah & Khazanah Nasional, ECOMY undertook another ground-breaking project to repatriate via digital images, interesting collection of insects and wildlife collected by Alfred Russel Wallace and other collectors held at the British Natural History Museum, in a project entitled ‘Bringing Back Malaysia’s Biodiversity Held Overseas in Digital Format (Wallace & Malaysian Collection) also known as The Wallace Project. The project runs June 2017 – May 2018.
  • KampungKu is another signature project by ECOMY to bring the gift of solar lights to local communities living in and around national parks. This in turn will help us better alleviate localised economic & social status and promote the subtle idea of conservation and ecotourism. Project runs 2017-ongoing.

2016

  • Negeri Sembilan Bird Expedition Oct, 2016. ECOMY created, developed and organised the first of its kind public expedition in Jemaloi. New record/data and promotional photographs were collected for and on behalf of the NS Tourism Board.
  • Royal Belum Hornbill Survey, Sept 2016. ECOMY’s signature event held for the past 4 years by ECOMY’s CEO to help promote Hornbills as an ecotourism product for Perak and Malaysia. Ecotourism Lecture. ECOMY, assisted by Tourism Malaysia created history by organising the first live feed public lecture with Mei-O University, Japan in Nov, 2016. Lecture was presented direct from TM’s office in Putrajaya to the Japanese public in Okinawa.
  • Asian Bird Fair, Nov 2016, Jingshan, China. ECOMY hosted Tourism Malaysia personnel and a few bird tour agents to attend the first ABF in China.
  • Malaysia Birdwatching Paradise. An updated and revised brochure for Tourism Malaysia was published in Oct 2015 and reprinted Oct 2016.

2015

  • Pioneering Nature Guide Mentorship Programme. 2015 – present day, ending December 2017. This programme is currently being undertaken successfully on Pangkor Island & Langkawi Island by ECOMY. It is the first and only programme of its kind that utilises the ‘Mentorship’ approach.
  • Nature Guide Training Programmes. Certification courses regularly being held by ECOMY at its main training facility, the Vale Eco Centre, Teluk Batik, Perak. 5 training sessions held to date with over 200 participants attending. Topics range between Introduction to Nature Guiding, Beginners Course on Birdwatching, Discovering Butterflies and Discover Nightwalks.
